A new species of shark, called the painted hornshark, has been discovered off the northeastern coast of Australia. Belonging to the order Heterodontiformes, this species is characterized by its unusual human-like molars. The genetic analysis revealed that it is distinct from the previously known species in the order, bringing the total number of species to 10. The painted hornsharks have a striped pattern on their skin, with slight differences in markings and egg cases compared to other species. They live at depths of 125 to 229 meters and have powerful jaws that allow them to crush prey like crustaceans and mollusks.
