NASA Launches Center to Safeguard Against Growing Space Weather Threats

NASA has provided funding for the CLEAR Space Weather Center of Excellence at the University of Michigan, a space weather forecasting center aimed at providing accurate and timely space weather forecasts to warn of solar energetic particle (SEP) storm events. The center will combine physics-based models with history-based models to create an efficient pipeline that can use real-time data from the sun to provide quick and accurate forecasts of SEP storm events, helping to mitigate the damage caused by these storms to satellite operators and human spaceflight missions.
