Walking on an Asteroid: Scientists Reveal the Experience (Video)

Scientists are exploring what it would be like to walk on an asteroid based on images sent back by NASA's DART mission. The surface of the asteroid Dimorphos, a moonlet of the larger asteroid Didymos, is covered in large boulders, making walking more like climbing and jumping. The loose composition of some asteroids, like Bennu, poses the risk of sinking or bouncing off the surface. Astronauts may need to use spikes or a thruster system to stay attached to the asteroid. The low gravity and shifting sky above would also present challenges. The European Space Agency's upcoming Hera mission will send CubeSats to land on Dimorphos for further observations.
