Translucent Cockroach Babies Hatch in Skin-Crawling Footage

A new video from National Geographic's series "A Real Bug's Life" captures the unsettling moment when translucent cockroach larvae emerge from their protective egg case, known as an ootheca. The footage showcases the delicate unfolding of the larvae as they begin to explore their underground habitat. Female American cockroaches typically produce one egg case per month, each containing around 16 eggs. Capturing this rare event required meticulous planning and control, with the footage ultimately being shot in a carefully controlled environment after months of trial and error.
