Asteroids of various sizes and speeds set to pass by Earth this week.

Asteroid 1994 XD, a "potentially hazardous" asteroid nearly the size of a skyscraper, will pass by Earth on June 12, but NASA assures there is no cause for concern. The asteroid will be about eight times the Earth-moon distance away, or over 1.9 million miles away. The Virtual Telescope Project will provide a live feed of the asteroid's fly-by. NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies (NEOS) uses complex computer models to ascertain the orbits of near earth asteroids and comets, and calculate their likelihood of colliding with Earth.
