Astronomers Warn Starlink Satellites Obstruct Asteroid Detection

Over 100 astronomers have urged the US FCC to pause SpaceX's Starlink and other mega-constellation satellite launches due to potential environmental impacts and interference with astronomical observations. They argue that the rapid deployment of satellites, which now account for over half of the 9,000 active satellites in orbit, could obstruct ground-based observatories and contribute to space debris. Concerns also include the risk of satellite components surviving re-entry and causing harm on Earth.
