NOAA Warns of Impending Solar Storm and Blackouts as Sunspot Activity Increases

A new sunspot has emerged on the southeastern limb of the Sun, which has already produced an M4-class solar flare that sparked radio blackouts on Earth on May 31. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a warning for a minor G1-class geomagnetic storm today, June 2, which could cause damage to GPS signals and small satellites. However, the bigger concern is the unstable magnetic field of the sunspot, which could cause a more intense solar storm in the coming weeks, potentially disrupting GPS, mobile networks, internet, and even causing power outages.
