Rare Orange Auroras Illuminate UK Skies Following Powerful Solar Storm

Rare orange auroras, which are typically impossible to see, were spotted in the skies above Aberdeenshire, Scotland, after a solar storm caused a geomagnetic disturbance. The orange hues appeared during a peak of auroral activity and were captured by photographer Graeme Whipps, who also managed to photograph a meteor during the lightshow. The orange color is a result of red and green light mixing, which occurs when vertical bands of red and green auroras perfectly overlap.
