Unearthing Physics Mysteries: Dark Matter Hunt in Abandoned Gold Mine

Physicists have built the largest dark matter detector to date, called LZ, which is located nearly a mile underground in South Dakota. The detector consists of 10 metric tons of liquid xenon and is designed to detect rare interactions between dark matter particles and regular atoms. By reducing radioactivity and using radiopure materials, LZ aims to create a clear space to observe dark matter interactions. Although no dark matter interactions have been observed yet, the ongoing data collection and analysis hold hope for future discoveries.
