Astronomers Trace Repeating Radio Bursts to Massive Galaxies

Astronomers using the CHIME telescope have discovered a new repeating fast radio burst (FRB) source, designated FRB 20240209A, located in the outskirts of a quiescent elliptical galaxy. This FRB, which has experienced 22 repeating bursts, is notable for its large offset from the host galaxy's center, suggesting a possible origin in a globular cluster. This discovery marks the first association of a repeating FRB with a quiescent galaxy and an elliptical galaxy.
