Great Salt Lake meteorite fragment debuts at University of Utah exhibit

A 774-gram fragment of the Great Salt Lake meteorite, the largest recovered from Utah’s 2022 fall, is now on display at the University of Utah as the centerpiece of a new exhibit. The rock—an ordinary chondrite about 4.56 billion years old—was part of Utah’s second witnessed meteorite fall, and scientists have traced its pre-impact orbit to link it with asteroid families while dozens of other fragments have been recovered.
