NASA Discovers Evidence of Japanese Moon Lander's Crash

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter captured images of the crash site of ispace's HAKUTO-R moon lander, which lost contact with its spacecraft and ran out of fuel during its descent towards the lunar surface. The images show four prominent pieces of debris and small changes to the surface, which could be parts of the lander or a small crater. NASA intends to take more pictures to study the impacts of moon landings for insight into moon dust and learn how to mitigate them. Ispace will share its final results from the mission later this week.
