The first privately-built U.S. moon lander, Peregrine, is set to launch from Cape Canaveral on the maiden flight of United Launch Alliance's new Vulcan rocket, carrying 20 experiments and international payloads, including six NASA instruments and a $108 million sensor. The mission marks the first in a series of private-sector moon missions funded under NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services program and the debut flight of the Vulcan rocket, which is replacing the company's Atlas and Delta family of launchers. If successful, Peregrine will be the first U.S. lander to reach the moon's surface since 1972 and the first privately developed American lander.
