Asteroid the Size of a Skyscraper Surprises Scientists, Detected Late

A skyscraper-sized asteroid, named 2023 NT1, flew past Earth at a distance closer than the moon, but scientists only noticed it two days later. The asteroid, approximately 200 feet wide, went undetected due to the glare of the sun. While it is not considered a potentially hazardous object, the incident highlights the blind spot caused by the sun in detecting near-Earth asteroids. Efforts are underway, such as the NEOMIR mission, to address this threat and detect hidden asteroids in the sun's shine.
