Massive asteroid to safely pass between Earth and moon this weekend.

An asteroid estimated to be between 40 and 90 metres in diameter will pass harmlessly between Earth and the moon's orbit this weekend, providing scientists with a chance to study the object close up. The asteroid, known as 2023 DZ2, will pass within 515,000km of the moon on Saturday US time and fly past Earth at about 28,000km/h. While there is no chance of it striking Earth, the close encounter offers a great opportunity for observations and good practice for planetary defence.
