Study Reveals Rapid Melting Post-Ice Age

A Virginia Tech-led study has provided the first geochemical evidence of a rapid melting period at the end of the last global ice age, known as the "plumeworld ocean" era. This period, occurring around 635 to 650 million years ago, saw Earth's climate shift from deep freeze to a slushy state due to high carbon dioxide levels. The study analyzed lithium isotopes in carbonate rocks, revealing insights into the dramatic environmental changes and the resilience of life during this time.
