Scientists from the University of Cambridge's Institute of Astronomy have developed mathematical models to explore how comets could potentially deliver the building blocks of life to exoplanets in the Milky Way galaxy. While the research is not conclusive evidence for life on other worlds, it could help narrow down the search for life-hosting exoplanets. The study suggests that comets could deliver organic molecules to other planets, similar to how they may have delivered the seeds of life to Earth. The simulations show that solar systems with tightly packed planets are more likely to experience slow enough comet impacts for the ingredients for life to survive intact. However, rocky planets surrounding red dwarf stars, the most common stars in the galaxy, may face unique challenges for life due to high-velocity impacts.
