NASA Successfully Restores Contact with Voyager 2 Spacecraft

NASA has restored contact with the Voyager 2 spacecraft after weeks of silence caused by a command error that tilted its antenna away from Earth. The spacecraft, launched in 1977 to explore the outer solar system, is now hurtling through interstellar space billions of miles away. The correction command took over 18 hours to reach Voyager 2, and it took another 18 hours to receive a response. This outage was believed to be the longest period without communication from Voyager 2. As long as their plutonium power holds, the Voyager spacecraft may continue to function until the 50th anniversary of their launch in 2027.
