Apple unveils M6: a 2nm chip with more cores and AI, plus M5 Ultra for Mac Studio
Apple announced the M6 chip—the company’s first 2nm Mac processor—paired with an M5 Ultra for the Mac Studio. The M6 has a 12-core CPU (two super cores, four performance cores, six efficiency cores), a 12-core GPU, a Dual 16-core Neural Engine for on-device AI, and support for up to 32GB of unified memory. The M5 Ultra uses UltraFusion to pair two dual-die M5 Max chips into a quad-die package, delivering up to a 36-core CPU (12 super, 24 performance), up to an 80-core GPU, a 32-core Neural Engine, and up to 512GB of high‑bandwidth memory. The M6 will ship in a new Mac Mini, the M5 Ultra in a new Mac Studio, with preorder starting Tuesday and a September 22 release date.
