NZ foreign minister heads to Beijing for talks with Chinese counterpart.

New Zealand's foreign minister, Nanaia Mahuta, will visit China to meet her counterpart Qin Gang, the first such visit since 2019. Mahuta plans to discuss areas of cooperation such as trade, people-to-people, climate, and environmental issues, as well as raise concerns about key security challenges and advocate for outcomes reflecting New Zealand's values on human rights. The visit follows the easing of COVID-19 travel curbs between the countries. China hopes the visit will enhance communication, mutual respect, and trust, and work for greater progress in bilateral ties.
