Thousands Evacuated as Wildfires Rage Near Bordeaux Region
TL;DR
More than 20,000 residents and visitors were evacuated as wildfires burned near Lege-Cap-Ferret, about 50 km west of Bordeaux, with around 800 firefighters and hundreds of gendarmes and soldiers on the scene; the blaze, likely sparked by a brush-clearing machine, scorched about 3,400 hectares and drew EU water-bombing planes to assist. Two firefighters died nearby this week, as authorities warn that heatwaves and winds linked to climate change are fueling fires across Europe.
