US Imposes Fresh Sanctions on Iran's Missile and Drone Programs as UN Restrictions End

The Biden administration has announced new sanctions targeting Iran's ballistic missile and drone programs as United Nations restrictions on Tehran's missile program from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal expire. The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on individuals and entities in Iran, Hong Kong, China, and Venezuela that enable Iran's destabilizing programs. The US State Department also imposed sanctions on Iranian and Russian entities. Germany, France, the UK, and the US have pledged to maintain similar constraints on Iran's missile program through their own national sanctions. The US and 45 other countries committed to preventing the supply of ballistic missile-related items to protect peace and stability in the region.
