Brazil’s Lula and Bolsonaro neck-and-neck in latest poll ahead of election

A Quaest poll published Aug 15 shows Lula da Silva leading Bolsonaro in a simulated runoff, 43% to 40% (within the margin of error), a near-tie that narrows from an earlier 5-point gap. In the first round Lula leads 38% to Bolsonaro’s 31%, with three other candidates well behind. The poll surveyed 2,004 people for Globo between Aug 10–13. Lula launched his re‑election bid Aug 2, emphasizing sovereignty and defense spending as Trump ties loom; Flavio Bolsonaro is the main right-wing candidate after his father was ruled ineligible. The race remains highly competitive about two months from voting.
