IO Interactive announced 007 First Light has surpassed 4 million sales less than three months after launch, following an earlier figure of 2.7 million in about a week. The milestone comes amid layoffs tied to the cancellation of IOI’s Xbox publishing contract for Project Fantasy, with rumors of a Switch 2 version and potential sequel involvement from Amazon.

IO Interactive released Patch 1.1.0 for 007 First Light, delivering more than 200 fixes (crashes, clipping, achievement issues) and adding two new TacSim missions plus unlockable rewards such as the DRS-7 Silenced SMG and the Diamond in the Rough outfit. Patch sizes vary by platform, with PS5 at 23.84 GB and smaller updates on Steam, Microsoft PC, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series. The update also brings stability and gameplay/UI improvements across platforms. The piece notes the game’s strong performance for IO Interactive (2.7 million copies sold in a week) but also flags layoffs linked to Xbox canceling Project Fantasy, casting uncertainty over the studio’s future while suggesting a continued focus on 007 First Light and related projects.
IO Interactive released the first major patch for 007 First Light, adding TacSim missions and two new three-tier TacSim Escalations, plus unlockable Intel outfits (including the DRS-7 Silenced SMG and the Diamond in the Rough) and several new TacSim weapons (Stormberg 50 cal, DRX-2 Machine Pistol). The update also fixes a host of issues across missions, gadgets, and online/offline play, with patch notes available on the IO Interactive site.
IO Interactive initially pitched 007 First Light as an ensemble piece with multiple double-Os, but the game was reworked into a Bond-led, more action-adventure narrative after a pivotal training sequence and a shift in tone influenced by the Daniel Craig era. Bond matures and reshapes MI6, with supporting characters given new arcs. The title received strong early reception (Eurogamer four stars) and rapid sales (about 2.7 million in a week), but IO has faced layoffs and an office closure following the cancellation of a publishing deal with Xbox for Project Fantasy. The studio is now pursuing DLC and a quick post-launch mission, while Amazon’s ownership of the Bond rights injects uncertainty for future installments. IO insists Bond remains aspirational and capable of changing those around him, even as the broader licensing situation looms.
IO Interactive revealed 007 First Light was originally pitched as an ensemble Bond adventure with multiple 00 agents and a training montage that suggested teamwork, only for most agents to die and Bond to emerge as the last man standing; the idea was abandoned about seven years after the initial pitch as the story shifted from lighthearted to a darker, survivor’s-guilt arc.
IO Interactive is laying off staff after ending an external partnership on its upcoming Project Fantasy, but says the game remains in development and the Bond-inspired 007 First Light franchise will continue; 007 First Light has sold around 3 million copies, while Xbox emphasizes it is rebalancing investments rather than cutting overall game spending as the next Bond project remains undecided.
Digital Foundry’s PC review finds 007 First Light a solid port after patch 1.0.5 fixes the DLSS issue; performance improves with higher-end CPUs but mid-range rigs can be CPU-bound, with DLSS gains now reasonable. Start from PS5/Series X presets, adjust texture quality to match VRAM, and reduce LOD if CPU-limited; volumetrics are demanding but tunable, and 60–120fps is feasible in many scenes. The PC build still lacks XeSS/FSR4 and DRS, and would benefit from frame generation, but overall it’s a well-performing PC port worth recommending.
The Flight, the music duo behind Bond-like soundscapes, crafted the score for IO Interactive's James Bond game 007 First Light, recording 32 minutes of music in a half-day session at Abbey Road with the Chamber Orchestra of London, blending electronic textures with classic Bond motifs and designing interactive music that changes as players act in combat and stealth.
IO Interactive’s James Bond game 007 First Light has sold over 3 million copies since its May 26 launch, after moving 2.7 million in its first week. The publisher says the Bond adventure is outperforming expectations, with a Nintendo Switch 2 port planned and extensive post‑launch updates coming, while IOI is expected to remain involved in future Bond titles under Amazon MGM Studios.
A writer who quit gaming 15 years ago finds his enthusiasm reignited after the BAFTA premiere of 007 First Light; impressed by its cinematic visuals and faithful Bond vibe, he buys a PS5 and wonders if contemporary games can deliver a cinema-like experience.
IO Interactive pushes back on the claim that 007: First Light cost $200 million to develop, saying the figure covers bonuses and marketing rather than the production budget; the game has sold over 3 million and is tracking well above internal forecasts, with a Switch 2 edition due this summer and discussions of a potential sequel with Amazon MGM, likely at lower costs than the first game.
IO Interactive says 007 First Light has sold about 2.7 million copies in under two weeks and is “probably” over 3 million, with the budget reported around $200 million being an overestimate once marketing and bonuses are excluded. The company hasn’t fully recouped yet due to royalties and a live-service arrangement, but executives say the game exceeded expectations and they’re exploring future Bond-related work with Amazon beyond year one.
