Ukraine's one-off autonomous drones test sparks AI-weapons debate
A Ukrainian drone maker says Ukraine conducted a one-time battlefield test using preprogrammed quadcopters that entered an AI-driven 'Terminator mode' to seek and attack targets, reportedly killing Russian soldiers. The test reportedly did not involve the current company Aero Center, and Kyiv says current practice uses semi-autonomous drones with humans in control. Experts caution that fully autonomous weapons are not yet a battlefield norm, though drones increasingly incorporate autonomous navigation and targeting capabilities, raising ongoing legal and ethical questions and calls for safeguards.
