Former UK MP Widdecombe killed in hammer attack; suspect in court
Former British MP Ann Widdecombe was found dead at her Devon home after a man allegedly entered and struck her head 21 times with a hammer; Joshua Kerry, 28, was charged with her murder at Westminster Magistrates' Court and remanded in custody, with the provisional death cause described as blunt force head injury. A case management hearing is scheduled for October 9, 2026, and a provisional trial date is set for 8 June 2027. Counterterrorism police later took over the investigation amid concerns about threats to MPs, making Widdecombe the third UK MP killed in recent years.
