"Tech, Climate Change, and Your Morning Cup: The Future of Coffee Production"

Climate change and increasing demand for coffee are threatening the future of traditional coffee production, leading to the rise of beanless coffee made from alternative ingredients like chickpeas, lupin beans, and date seeds. Startups are developing sustainable, lab-grown, and climate-resilient coffee substitutes to combat the environmental impact of traditional coffee farming. While some question the taste and sustainability claims of beanless coffee, others believe it could become a viable alternative as climate change makes traditional coffee production more challenging and expensive.

"Seattle Startup's 'Beanless Coffee' Fights Deforestation with Sustainable Solution"

Seattle-based startup Atomo Coffee, backed by investors behind Beyond Meat, is launching the world's first beanless coffee in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of coffee production. The company's brew, which mimics the molecular structure of coffee using superfoods and upcycled ingredients, aims to combat deforestation caused by coffee farming. Studies show that climate change could render half of the land currently used for coffee production unproductive by 2050. Atomo Coffee's initial "proof-of-concept" cold brew caused 93% fewer carbon emissions and used 94% less water than regular coffee. The company is in talks with major coffee firms to scale up and supply them.
