Chemo Brain and Fatigue Spotlight Digital Accessibility Gaps for Cancer Survivors
A study highlighted by The Conversation shows about 18 million U.S. cancer survivors live with long-lasting cognitive, physical, and visual impairments—such as chemo brain, fatigue, and dexterity changes—that make reading text, following instructions, and navigating apps on mobile devices and websites difficult. Many survivors report ongoing challenges years after treatment (e.g., 46% read text, 39% follow instructions, 37% navigate; fatigue and anxiety are common). The authors argue that improving digital accessibility—through bullet-pointed content, larger fonts, high contrast, zoom, voice input/output, and simpler interfaces—can significantly improve quality of life. They also advocate involving survivors in design processes to create more usable health technologies as survivorship grows longer.,
