DHS Blames Biden for Release of Stalker Who Killed Sacramento Woman
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that Rohit Rohit, the 22-year-old man who fatally shot Shalini Thakur in a Sacramento Panera Bread parking lot, was in the United States illegally. DHS stated that Rohit, an Indian citizen, entered the country through Arizona in 2023 and was released by the Biden administration after being arrested by Border Patrol. The agency blamed this release for the tragedy, calling it a failure of immigration policy. Thakur, 38, was killed on September 9 after months of stalking, including an incident where Rohit entered her home while she slept. Rohit died by suicide during a police standoff on Highway 50 shortly after the shooting. While DHS focused on immigration status, local officials and the victim’s family emphasized failures in enforcing restraining orders and protecting victims from domestic violence.
