Amazon halts high-speed e-bikes in California amid safety concerns
Amazon will stop selling certain high-speed electric bicycles in California after a consumer alert warned that some products marketed as ebikes exceed legal speed limits and could be classified as mopeds or motorcycles, prompting removal of non-compliant listings and stricter seller oversight; the move follows fatal crashes, including an 81-year-old man struck by a teen on an e-motorcycle and a 13-year-old’s death, with authorities noting more than 100 related U.S. deaths and a 430% rise in injuries in Southern California.
