IBM Hit by Oppenheimer Downgrade as Q2 Miss Triggers Selloff
Oppenheimer downgraded IBM to Perform from Outperform after the company reported a weaker-than-expected Q2 with preliminary revenue around $17.2 billion, citing softer demand for transaction-processing software, a shift in customer spend toward servers and storage, and several large contracts pushed into late quarter, a combination that sparked a sell-off; while Red Hat, HashiCorp, Confluent and the server/storage segments show strength, those gains aren’t enough to offset broader weakness, and IBM’s path to meeting full-year guidance may take longer as enterprise tech spending pivots toward AI infrastructure.
