Ford crafts Chicago-built Explorer for Pope Leo XIV with personal touches
Ford CEO Jim Farley and his wife gifted Pope Leo XIV a customized black Explorer Platinum built at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant, featuring a 3.3-liter hybrid V6 engine, a 10-speed hybrid transmission, vanity plates reading “DA POPE” and “LEO XIV,” Chicago flag seat tags, and interior engravings of the Chicago skyline and St. Peter’s Basilica; the pope is expected to use it around the Vatican after a private Feb. 28 audience, with Ford staff noting the personal touches and a few factory gifts accompanying the gesture.
