Boeing Unveils Final Configuration F-15EX Eagle II with $90M Price Tag

Boeing has flown the third F-15EX Eagle II, which is the first to be built in the final operational configuration. The aircraft, designated EX3, completed the Integrated Test & Evaluation Phase I and is expected to be delivered to the U.S. Air Force soon. The data from the tests will inform the decision for the full rate production phase, which is expected to be announced by the end of the year. The Air Force is also reconsidering plans for the Formal Training Unit for the F-15EX at Kingsley Field, Oregon, and is now planning to acquire 104 F-15EX fighters instead of the initial 144.

US House Draft Bill Outlines Future Air Force and Space Force Plans.

The House Armed Services Committee's proposed version of the fiscal 2024 National Defense Authorization Act includes an additional $92 million in advance procurement funding for the US Air Force to buy six more F-15EX Eagle II fighters in fiscal 2025, bringing the total to 30. The move aims to speed up the pace at which the Air Force is replacing older, retiring fighters and modernizing its fleet. The Air Force plans to retire 801 tactical fighter aircraft over the next five years while bringing on 345 new F-35s and F-15EXs.
