Apple's iOS 27.2 public beta introduces three major updates: Dual Capture for Group FaceTime, a redesigned Apple Podcasts queue, and user profiles in the Apple TV app. Additionally, a China-only setting restricts app access to motion sensors to combat intrusive ads.
iOS 27 is set for a general release on Sept. 14 and adds nine features, including drawing in Messages, larger widgets, Dual Capture for FaceTime, more realistic images via Image Playground with SynthID, receipt-based bill-splitting in Wallet, post-capture photo recompose, enhanced parental controls with Ask to Browse, speed boosts for apps, photos, and AirDrop, and upcoming generative‑AI Siri improvements later this year.
iOS 27 enables FaceTime's Dual Capture on iPhone 17 and newer, letting users simultaneously stream front and rear cameras during a call; activate it via the Flip button (you can disable the front cam with a second tap), with the default keeping the front camera active when the rear is used. The feature requires both participants to run iOS 27; older iPhones will see the Dual Capture stream from others but cannot contribute it.
Bloomberg reports Apple plans a Home Hub smart display with a 7-inch touchscreen that runs a tvOS-based OS, featuring Siri as its main selling point, widgets, apps, and customizable clock faces. It will offer multi-room use, be available in tabletop or wall-mounted forms, include built-in cameras with facial recognition, and support FaceTime calls, home security monitoring, and an intercom. A future model may add a 9-inch display and a robotic arm. The report also mentions other Apple devices in development, such as an in-home security camera, a new Apple TV set-top, and an upgraded HomePod mini, with potential release this fall to next year.
A seven-minute bodycam video of Dianna Russini’s February traffic stop shows no FaceTime call to any NFL coach to help avoid a ticket for texting while driving, contradicting her radio anecdote. The footage, released by Adam Herbets, captures the entire stop and shows Russini displaying a text exchange with Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell but never making a live FaceTime call; the officer ultimately gave her a warning to avoid using the phone while driving.
iOS 27 adds five notable features: expanded landscape mode across more built-in apps (with a collapsible Messages sidebar and Dynamic Island Live Activities support), Dual Capture for FaceTime on iPhone 17-series and iPhone Air, a new Drawing tool in Messages, Apple Cash Bill Splitting for US users via Wallet/Messages or Siri, and enhanced Find My location sharing with timed expirations and pause options. The update is in developer beta with a public beta expected in July and a September release anticipated.
iOS 27 adds a Dual Camera feature to FaceTime on compatible iPhones (notably iPhone 17 models), enabling simultaneous front and rear camera video in calls. Activate by tapping the Flip button; the default keeps the front camera on, with a second tap to disable it. Both participants must be on iOS 27 to use Dual Camera, while older iPhones can view the dual feed but cannot contribute from their end.

Apple released security-only patches for several long-retired iOS/iPadOS versions (iOS 12.5.8, 15.8.6, 16.7.13) to refresh certificates so iMessage, FaceTime, and Apple ID sign-in continue working after expiration, extending minimal usefulness of old devices without adding features or fixes; modern hardware remains necessary for full functionality and some apps/browsing may still lag.
