Tragic loss at Volta a Portugal: 19-year-old Finlay Tarling dies after mid-race crash
British cyclist Finlay Tarling, 19, died after a light goods vehicle traveling in the opposite direction collided with him mid-race during the Volta a Portugal’s eighth stage. The driver reportedly turned around to rejoin the race, was not identified, and Tarling suffered cardiorespiratory arrest despite rapid emergency response as the stage was neutralized and the podium canceled. Tarling, a rising talent and brother of Josh Tarling, was part of the NSN Development Team; his death prompted condolences from British Cycling, the Volta organization, and Portuguese officials.
