Virginia raid uncovers $40M in gold bars tied to ex-government official
Federal agents seized 303 gold bars worth more than $40 million, plus cash and luxury watches, from the Virginia home of an ex-government official with top-secret clearance who is charged with theft of public money. The investigation says he sought foreign currency and tens of millions in gold for work-related expenses, and most of the government storage space for the assets was found missing; investigators also say he lied about Navy Reserve service and his academic credentials. CIA investigators flagged possible violations and referred the matter to the FBI, and Rush remains in federal custody ahead of a detention hearing.
