Artemis II Astronauts Prepare for Historic Moon Mission with Orion

This week at NASA, the Artemis II astronauts visited the Kennedy Space Center to inspect the Orion spacecraft that will take them on a 10-day journey around the Moon, marking the first mission with astronauts to the Moon in over 50 years. NASA also completed the first recovery test for Artemis II, practicing operational activities for safely retrieving the astronauts and spacecraft from the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, the James Webb Space Telescope revealed the colors of the most distant star ever detected, Earendel, which is more than twice as hot as our Sun. NASA also announced the upcoming Heliophysics Big Year, a global celebration of solar science and the Sun's influence on Earth and the solar system.

NASA gears up for summer solstice and total eclipse preparations.

NASA has declared 2023 as the Heliophysics Big Year, with two eclipses over Texas, an annular eclipse on October 13th and a total solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024. The year will also see the sun at its most active, with storms and flares more common. NASA will conduct five studies and launch sounding rockets to gather data. Citizen scientists will have an opportunity to experience at least a partial eclipse, and the year will be a great time to study radio transmissions and the upper atmosphere.
