Houthi surge along Yemen’s Red Sea coast triggers mass displacement
Nearly 46,000 people have been displaced in Taiz and Hodeidah as Houthi forces rapidly advance along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, including the strategic port of Mocha. Aid workers warn of a worsening humanitarian crisis with urgent needs for shelter, food, water and protection as roads and communications falter. The fighting threatens a wider civil war and could disrupt global shipping through Bab al-Mandab, contributing to higher oil prices while the UN cautions this marks a dangerous new phase of conflict.
