Glucosamine may accelerate memory loss in early Alzheimer's, study suggests
A Nature Metabolism study of UF Health records (24k dementia, 41k MCI) links glucosamine use to 25% higher five-year mortality and faster progression from MCI to Alzheimer's; mouse experiments suggest a brain sugar-processing mechanism, with glucosamine worsening memory and enzyme blockers improving symptoms. The authors warn this shows association, not causation, and urge further trials.
