Ukraine says it successfully tested a new interceptor designed to counter Russia’s fast jet-powered drones, hitting a Shahed target but noting that the control system still requires refinements; Zelensky framed the test as progress in developing affordable, rapid interceptors amid a surge in jet drone attacks, with Kyiv continuing to push for more capable weapons and occasional use of F-16s while development proceeds.
Jensen unveils a ground-up revival of the Interceptor with the GTX, a track-focused variant powered by a supercharged 6.8-liter V8 delivering 960 hp to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox; the GTX will lead a family that will also include a road-focused GTR and a GT grand tourer, with pricing to be announced.
Ukraine's Vyriy Industries and NOCTIS unveiled the ZIRKA interceptor drone, designed to automatically detect, track and neutralize Shahed drones, with speeds over 340 km/h, altitude up to 6 km, range of 30 km, and up to 20 minutes in the air, priced at about $2,000 per unit. A more advanced ZIRKA 2.0 is in development, and Ukraine is deploying other interceptors like LITAVR.
Ukraine is deploying low-cost, homegrown interceptor drones like Sting and Bullet to counter Russia's high-altitude suicide drones, transforming its air defense strategy by focusing on mass production and affordability to protect urban centers and energy infrastructure.
Ukraine's Odesa-based design bureau Technari has developed the Mongoose, a jet-powered, reusable drone interceptor equipped with a multi-barreled shotgun to target enemy drones like the Shahed, offering a potentially more cost-effective and multi-mission solution amid increasing drone threats.
Paris-based startup Dark is developing Interceptor, a spacecraft designed to launch, attach to, and de-orbit uncooperative objects in space using a rocket-powered boxing glove approach. The company aims to become the "S.W.A.T. team of space" and is focused on unplanned, short missions for orbital defense. Dark closed a $6 million funding round and is working on critical systems and technologies needed for quick missions, with a demonstration mission planned for 2026 and a de-orbit attempt in 2027.
