Google AI Pioneers Quit to Launch Discovery Loop
Several of Google’s top AI leaders, including Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals, and Quoc Le, are leaving Google to found Discovery Loop, a public-benefit startup that will pursue AI-driven, automated scientific discovery across domains such as biology, drug design, chip design, and materials. Google will take a stake and provide compute for a year, while investors like Vinod Khosla and Radical Ventures back the venture. The team aims to develop autonomous machine-learning loops that could become the core AI researcher for multiple fields, signaling a notable shift in the AI research landscape.
