Michigan Credit Union CEO Terminated After Viral AI Photo Mocks Canadian Border
Jane Smith, the CEO of Family First Credit Union in Saginaw, Michigan, has been terminated effective immediately following a viral social media post. Smith shared an AI-generated image of her family wearing 'Lake America' sweatshirts on September 11, 2026, with a caption mocking Canada. The post, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and a trip to Halifax, sparked intense backlash in Canada and the US. Although Smith apologized and claimed the image was a joke referencing President Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario, the credit union disavowed the content and removed her from her position. Jason Acosta has been appointed as interim CEO.
