
Unprecedented Space Explosion Possibly Caused by Black Hole's Devastating Force
Astronomers have discovered an unprecedented cosmic explosion named AT2022aedm, which emitted as much as 100 times more energy than an average supernova and faded to 1% of its original brightness in just 14 days. The explosion, located 2 billion light-years away, is believed to be the result of a small or medium-sized black hole destroying a star. This new type of explosion, dubbed a "Luminous Fast Cooler" (LFC), challenges previous supernova classifications and may provide insights into the growth of supermassive black holes. The team is investigating the possibility that intermediate-mass black holes, which have remained elusive, could be responsible for these powerful cosmic events.
