Impending Solar Storm Threatens Earth's Magnetic Field, Warns NASA
NASA has reported a powerful magnetic filament eruption on the Sun, resulting in a coronal mass ejection (CME) that is now moving towards Earth. While a direct hit is unlikely, the CME is expected to sideswipe the planet, potentially sparking a solar storm tomorrow. The storm is predicted to be of a lesser intensity, causing disruptions to communication for mariners, aviators, drone pilots, and amateur radio operators. In worst cases, solar storms can disrupt GPS and mobile networks, hamper internet connectivity, damage satellites, cause power grid failures, and corrupt ground-based electronics.
