Solar Storms Threaten Earth: What You Need to Know.
A massive blast in one of the magnetic filaments on the Sun's surface caused a coronal mass ejection (CME) cloud to be hurled towards Earth. The CME is expected to hit Earth on April 24th, causing G1 to G2-class geomagnetic storms. Astronomers had previously warned about the high number of magnetic filaments present on the Earth-facing side of the Sun, which are looping structures filled with plasma and magnetic fields that can cause big explosions on the Sun's surface.
