Non-invasive ultrasound treatment stabilizes TTTS in twin pregnancies
A London study tested a pioneering non-invasive ultrasound procedure that seals tiny placental blood vessels to treat twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) in identical twins. In a small trial of 20 pregnancies, about half needed further treatment and 12 babies survived; Nancy and Margo were born healthy at nearly 34 weeks. The ultrasound method blocked roughly 90% of treated vessels and had no reported side effects, offering a potential alternative to invasive therapies, though larger studies are needed before it can be widely adopted.
