Penguin Colony: An Anti-Soulslike Satire on Lovecraft and Colonialism
Penguin Colony, released October 16, 2026, is a semi-open world platformer by Origame Digital that reimagines H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness. Players control various penguin species to traverse an Antarctic landscape filled with Nazi explorers and eldritch horrors. The game uses the penguin’s indifference to expose the absurdity of colonial myth-making and racist ideologies, featuring collectible words instead of traditional items. It blends Soulslike level design with a critical deconstruction of Lovecraft’s original work, adding a Māori narrative thread to counter colonialist themes.
