Nina Jacobson Confirms 'Dirty Dancing' Sequel Will Honor Patrick Swayze Without AI
Producer Nina Jacobson confirmed at the 2026 Future of Filmmaking Summit that a new 'Dirty Dancing' film is in development, featuring Jennifer Grey as Baby Houseman in a 1990s-set romance. The project, produced by Color Force and Lionsgate, aims to capture the raw, indie spirit of the 1987 original rather than creating a glossy legacy sequel. Jacobson emphasized that the film will honor the late Patrick Swayze’s legacy without using AI to resurrect his character. Additionally, she explained that 'Crazy Rich Asians' will return as an HBO series rather than a movie sequel to better accommodate the complex book source material and reunite the original cast.
