Urolithin A from Pomegranates Boosts Heart Relaxation in Lab HFpEF Models
Lab studies from King’s College London show that urolithin A, a compound produced after eating pomegranates, activates PKGIα to improve heart relaxation, reduce scar tissue, and limit heart-muscle enlargement in models of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, with functional gains up to 80%. While promising, findings are in animals and engineered human tissue; human trials are needed and dietary strategies to raise urolithin A levels are being explored, not yet a proven treatment.
