Rovelli’s New Book Challenges Analytic Philosophy’s Return to Naive Realism
Italian theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli has released his first book dedicated to philosophy, 'On the Equality of All Things,' in which he critiques the resurgence of naive realism in analytic philosophy. In an interview with the Institute of Art and Ideas, Rovelli argues that twentieth-century philosophy often failed to integrate the conceptual shifts brought by Einstein and Bohr. He contends that entities like electrons, minds, stones, and galaxies are not fundamentally different in nature, challenging the traditional distinction between physical and mental phenomena. Rovelli asserts that neither science nor philosophy can access 'ultimate reality,' viewing the debate between realism and anti-realism as a semantic confusion rather than a substantive disagreement.
